AMELIA PEKAR
Licensed Professional Counselor
Amelia believes that distress comes from disconnection and healing comes from connection. In her therapeutic work, she aims to collaboratively cultivate a space where clients can be heard, explore and gain insight into their experience, and heal from the wounds of disconnection, whether that comes from trauma, interpersonal challenges, or surviving in a world dominated by white supremacist, capitalist heteropatriarchy. Amelia has experience working with folks experiencing anxiety, depression, relational concerns, complicated family systems, complex trauma, and life transitions. As a queer woman who grew up ensconced in fundamentalist Christianity, they are also passionate about working with queer folks and those affected by religious trauma. Amelia’s practice is humanistic and trauma-informed, and draws on the approaches of attachment-based theories, Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), narrative therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). She is trained in the WPATH Standards of Care and has experience providing gender affirming therapy.
