MAXX POTTER

Professional Counselor Associate

Maxx is an associate professional counselor who primarily works with emerging adults, teenagers (14+), and queer and trans people. He has an extensive background working with young people as well as members of the queer community, and is passionate about providing accessible services to members of these communities and more.

Maxx uses cognitive and behavioral as well as existential therapies in session and has received training in both ACT and DBT. He also frequently incorporates art making and creative interventions in his work with clients. A significant part of his approach is the idea that the quality of the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important factors in successful counseling. Maxx aims to create a space which is honest, humorous, and relaxed.

Additionally, he operates from a multicultural and social justice lens. He believes that the identities we hold are integral to how we experience the world and will impact the contexts under which counseling occurs. Maxx strives to approach his work with humility and curiosity while remaining aware of how power and privilege show up in the counseling relationship.

Maxx has experience working with clients with a variety of presenting concerns including anxiety, depression, suicidality, non-suicidal self harm, ADHD, relationships, and life transitions. He enjoys working with clients in school or college, clients who are autistic and/or neurodivergent, clients who are transitioning, as well as clients involved in kink/BDSM communities. Maxx also has training and experience in writing WPATH letters of support for gender affirming healthcare (for all ages) that are comprehensive, effective, and accessible.
